I’ve talked to tons of people about their jobs, their professional goals, and their challenges with their dharma (i.e., their sacred purpose, the thing they do that fills them up, nourishes them, and makes them feel like they’re contributing to the healing of their communities). And I’ve compiled my observations, and the consistencies I keep hearing over and over again, into these 8 truths about your purpose.
1. It’s gonna feel scary.
Everyone feels afraid when thinking about doing the scary thing. Quitting the job, building the business, writing the book, leaping into something unknown with sometimes little more than the vision. You’re not alone in that.
2. But that fear is a phantom.
The feeling is real, and feelings provide us with useful information. But if you look under the bed (at the fear that’s hiding) you’ll see that it’s not based in anything tangible. It's a phantom based on hypotheticals, at best.
3. Don’t ignore the Call.
That thing that won’t leave you alone; that idea which keeps tugging at you and persists in suggesting you do something about it. That thing that keeps getting louder. That’s a Calling. Don’t ignore it.
4. You are a healer and creator.
The call to be more creative and to rise into our healing roles is absolutely paramount right now. No matter what you create or which healing modalities you offer... Your work is needed.
5. It takes a village.
Serving the community has a big presence in the work you’re being asked to do. Being in community has a big presence in the work you’re being asked to do.
6. You need a support network.
Creating something new is intimidating and you’re going to feel many moments of uncertainty. That doesn’t mean you should stop. It means you should get support and guidance.
7. Your self-care is critical.
All the efforts you put into your own healing and wellbeing are meaningful. Whether it’s 5 minutes at a time or 50. Come back home to yourself as often as you can.
8. It's time to break up with your fear.
The fear of failure, the fear we don't know enough, the fear of putting ourselves 'out there', the fear of rejection, the fear of being vulnerable... they're ALL holding you back from moving forward in pursuit of whatever is calling to your heart right now.
